Understanding the effects of a pesticide sensitivity of native and invasive prey to the impact space of a predator.

Project Overview
Research Core Areas:
Project Abstract:
Thousands of potentially detrimental chemicals are commonly used in today’s world, leading to widespread contamination of aquatic ecosystems due to anthropogenic input. This contamination can affect the chemically mediated behaviors (i.e., resource location, competition) of organisms living in aquatic environments. There has been a call for the investigation of anthropogenic chemicals effect on chemical ecology, particularly in predator-prey interactions. Chemical impairment can alter the sensory abilities of prey, affecting detection of predators. Reduction in sensory capabilities of prey can shift the dynamics of predator-prey interactions in favor of predators, which can alter ecosystem trophic dynamics.
